Jordan River clean-up

Saturday, July 28, 2018 - 9:00pm

The public is invited to join the Antrim Conservation District (ACD) in cleaning up the Jordan River on Saturday, July 28. The ACD will provide lunches and canoes for pre-registered volunteers, but all are welcome to bring their own as well.
Participants will be entered to win prizes donated by ACD’s partners. Volunteers are asked to meet at 9:30 a.m. on July 28 at Graves Crossing boat launch near Graves Crossing State Forest Campground off M-66.

Manistee River Cleanup

Kalkaska Conservation District is seeking help to paddle the Manistee River from Yellow Trees Road to the CCC Campground to pick up trash in the river. Volunteers are asked to meet at 9 a.m. at the CCC Campground. To find out more or register, contact Renee Penny at 231-258-3307.

Outdoor Movie Night

Upcoming movies include “Wonder” (July 26), “Despicable Me 3” (Aug. 2) and “High School Musical” (Aug. 9).

Men’s Club breakfast meeting

Music in the Park Concert Series

‘Memories of Four Way Lodge’

A lecture entitled “Memories of Four Way Lodge,” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 16 by Dan Boone at the Torch Lake Township Hall, 2355 N US-31, three miles south of the M-88 intersection in Eastport. 
Boone’s lecture will discuss the girl’s camp on the west shore of Torch Lake that existed from 1922 (as Camp Wanalda to 1933) to 1971. As the former camp director, Boone will share some of his memories of the facility and its activities. There is no charge for the lecture, but donations are welcome. Coffee and cookies will be served.

Farmer’s Market at Springfield Rec Area

A Farmer’s Market and more are offered every Thursday (rain or shine), from 3-7 p.m. at the Springfield Recreation Area, located on the corner of Lund and Creighton roads near Fife Lake. Check out local produce, crafts and flea market items. Vendors are welcome with no set-up fees. Food dishes to pass are also welcome for the pot luck supper served at 5 p.m.

‘WOW’ Day Camps for kids

Pathway Community Church will host two upcoming Day Camps for kids and youth at Cedar Bend Farm in Mancelona. The first is for grades 1-4 and will take place from July 9-13. The second, for grades 5-8 will be held July 23-27. The camps will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include games, skits, music, crafts, bible adventures and more – along with lunches for all campers. Cost is $2 a day.

Hall of Famer to perform at Bee Well

Billy Davis, a member of the Rock & Roll, Doo Wop, and Rhythm & Blues Hall of Fames will perform with 2017 Michigan Blues Challenge Winner (solo/duo) Wayne Craycraft during a special performance from 9-11:30 p.m. Saturday, July 7 at Bee Well, 116 N. Bridge St. in Bellaire. Laura Grimshaw will also be present exhibiting the artwork of famous Detroit poster artist Gary Grimshaw. The event is free and no cover will be charged.
