Fashion Show

The Central Lake Lioness Club will host a Fashion Show on Monday, Sept. 24 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Blue Pelican restaurant. Fashion items from local businesses will be featured. The cost for tickets is $15 and includes appetizers, raffles and a cash bar. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Communities In Schools of Northwest Michigan, which serves the Central Lake School District.

‘Bright Autumn Beginnings’ at GRNA

Join staff from the Grass River Natural Area at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 22 and learn the techniques to capture the water and reflections of brilliant fall colors using pastels. AMVETS Fish Fry

The Elk Rapids AMVETS Post 114 will hold a fish fry from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21 at the post home, 410 Bridge St. in Elk Rapids. Cod, whitefish or a combo are offered and all meals include fries and coleslaw (or baked potato upon request). The public is welcome and all proceeds go to support local veterans.

Church to host pianist, silent movies and pizza

Interlochen Fine Arts Academy pianist Steve Larson will accompany two silent movies featuring Buster Keaton, “One Week” and “Sherlock Jr.” at Bellaire’s Church in the Hills on Thursday, Sept. 20.  A dinner of pizza and sides will be offered at 6 p.m. with the movies starting at 7 p.m.  Tickets must be reserved and purchased by calling the church office at 231-533-6001. Al-Anon Meeting

Al-Anon meets at noon every Tuesday at the Bellaire Community United Methodist Church, 105 Bridge St. in the upstairs library (use the side door). The group’s Tuesday meetings are held during the months of May through December. This is a support group for family and friends whose lives are affected by the alcohol or substance abuse of loved ones.

Beginning Bridge

Beginning Bridge, a nine-week course will be held Tuesdays through Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Alden District Library. The course will be taught by Judy King. Cost is $8 per session and is for new players, players who need a review after not having played for a while, or for those who would like a review of ACBL beginning rules. Front Porch anniversary celebration

All are invited to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Front Porch on Friday, Sept. 14 at the Banks Township Hall in Ellsworth. The event will feature a gospel concert by The Helmsman at 7 p.m. The festivities are free, but donations are welcome. Cake and coffee will be served.

Alba Area Historical Society to meet

Free Family Carnival

A free family carnival will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8-9 at the Bible Baptist Church in Central Lake, 1040 North M-88 (next to the football field). The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday and includes bounce houses, games, prizes, hot dogs and snacks. A free chicken BBQ is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, with service times at 10 and 11 a.m. There are no costs or donations requested for any events on either day. ‘Animals along the River’

Join the Grass River Natural Area for “Animals along the River” at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8 as the group creates ink sketches with added color of animals observed along the Grass River. Cost for the two-hour program is $8 per participant. Cider Tasting and Silent Auction

The third annual Cider Tasting and Silent Auction benefit will be held from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6 at the Stone Waters Inn, downtown Bellaire. Cost to attend is $35, with all proceeds going to benefit the Help From My Friends’ Pet Crisis Center in Bellaire. The silent auction will include donations from local artists, businesses, community members and area farmers. Attendees can enjoy cider tastings with select hors d’oeuvre pairings presented by Bee Well Meadery and Cathy Peterson.
