The Village of Mancelona will host its annual Kids Fishing Day, beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 27 at Johnson Pond. Bring your fishing pole, bait and bucket and enjoy a free day of fishing. The first 2019 meeting of Quality Thyme Garden Club will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25 at the home of Louise Hinds, 3267 Valley Road NW in Kalkaska. The speaker will be Robin Smille from Garden Goods. She will be introducing the club to new cultivars of Hydrangea and answering questions. For more information, contact Louise at 231-564-0748.

A dance event with the band Straight Forward will take place Saturday, April 20 from 7-10 p.m. at the Kalkaska Senior Center, 303 S. Coral St. All ages welcome. There is no charge to attend, but donations are welcome for the band. To find out more, call 231-258-5030.

First Congregational Church in Central Lake will begin its Easter/Passion Week events with a Maundy Thursday Seder meal at 6 p.m., followed by a 1 p.m. service on Good Friday and 7 p.m. Tenebrae Service. The week will wrap up on Easter Sunday, April 21 with a 6 a.m. Sunrise Service in Thurston Park (at the boat launch), early service at 7:30 a.m., Easter Breakfast from 8:45-9:45 a.m. and Late Service at 10 a.m. All are welcome.

The Antrim County Baby Pantry will celebrate the “Month of the Young Child” by holding its annual April Diaper Drive. Volunteers will be at Family Fare in Bellaire on Fridays, April 12 and 26 and Saturday, April 13 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. to accept diapers and/or monetary donations. In 2018 the pantry distributed 44,640 diapers and 7,082 pull-ups.

The next meeting of the Alba Area Historical Society will take place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, April 11 at the Sportsman’s Club in Alba. The group regularly meets on the second Thursday of each month. Meetings are open to all. To find out more, visit the society’s Facebook page or call 989-858-5560.

A “Blast from the Past Variety Show Fundraiser” will be held Saturday, April 6 from 7-9 p.m. at the Kalkaska High School Auditorium. Along with community talent, the event will feature: the KHS Alumni Band and Jazz Band, Solo Ensemble performers, Folklore, along with a Rock and Blues Band.
A donation of $5 per person is suggested. Proceeds from the show will go toward the school’s band instrument repair fund and/or for the purchase of new instruments.
