Blacksmithing Class offered at Historic Samels Farm
An introduction to Blacksmithing class will be presented by Historic Samels Farm with volunteer Ted Ewald on Saturday, April 22 from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Farm Blacksmith Shop, 8298 Skegemog Point Road, Williamsburg. This program will be to introduce basic skills of blacksmithing and provide early 1900s view of blacksmith shop. The following topics discussed and demonstrated will be Safety, Project Planning, Fire Building, Heating Steel, Shaping Techniques, Bending Techniques, Twisting , Cutting Techniques and High Carbon Steel Heat Treating Techniques. This is hands on program and all attendees will go home with a hand forged item they create. Please bring safety glasses, older work clothes and sensible shoes.
