Public Safety Center project remains on budget

BELLAIRE — The county’s new Public Safety Center is on budget and on schedule, according to Noah Schneider, a senior project manager for Christman. 

 “We’re at the design development stage,” explained Schneider, as he updated the Board of Commissioners at the July 16 meeting. “This is where the drawings are 60 to 80% completed and we have the ability to adjust at this level before construction.”

He reported that the total current estimated cost is $26,943,000, just under the $27 million budgeted for the project. Commissioners raised questions about parking and a 10% contingency fund set aside for issues that might arise during construction.  

Schneider optimistically predicted a groundbreaking in April 2027 and a completion date of July 2028.

In other business, the board:

• Voted 5-0 to accept 2025 annual reports from the
Sheriff’s Department, Glacial Hills Natural Area and the 13^th Circuit Court.   

• Recognized Sgt. Michael Knight for his 30 years of service with the Sheriff’s Department.  

• Heard from a Helena Township resident who warned about the dangers of global warming and predicted that President Trump is going to hell.
