Join the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy and Green Elk Rapids at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, from 3-5 p.m. for a community hike of the former Camp Maplehurst grounds. Participants of all ages are welcome and encouraged to wear comfortable hiking shoes.

East Jordan Fall Fest

The City of East Jordan Parks and Recreation Department and East Jordan Rotary will host its Annual Fall Fest on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 2-9 p.m. The event will include a host of activities including a hay art display, hayrides, softball tournament, local food trucks, beer tent and live music, along with face painting and balloon making for the kids.

The Banks Historical Society will dedicate its little stone house at 9241 Hill St. on Friday, Sept. 29 at 5:30 p.m - Ellsworth, MI. The dedication will be followed at 6 p.m. with a Stone Soup and Salad Dinner at the Front Porch Cafe. The cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children. Canned goods for clients of the Front Porch will be collected at that time. Tickets may be purchased at The Front Porch Cafe’ or call Shirley Tornga at 231-588-1063.

Fall Craft Show

The Bear Lake Christian Church will host its Fall Craft Show on Saturday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is free. The show will include a variety of handmade items from local crafters. Lunch will be available for purchase as well as a bake sale. Proceeds from the luncheon and bake sale will toward the church’s new roof. For more information, visit bearlakechristianchurch.org. Heritage Harvest Day at farmers market

Tractors from many eras will be on display at the Saturday, Sept. 23 Central Lake Farmers Market. Bob Greene will also demonstrate his wood lathe, the children’s area will be open, farm animals will be featured and Steve Dawson will provide live music beginning at 10 a.m. The Central Lake Farmers Market is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. each Saturday through Oct. 7. It is located on M-88 next to the Alden State Bank.

Free concert in Mancelona

Neshama will be holding a free, live concert at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15 at Mancelona Camp.
All are welcome to attend. Mancelona Camp will be offering campsites at reduced prices for those who would prefer to stay the night. The camp is situated two miles from downtown Mancelona at 6518 S. M-66 Highway, directly across from Lee Derrer Road. The concert will be held in the main building.

Paddle Antrim Festival

Household Hazardous Waste Collection

The Kalkaska Conservation District is hosting its first annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9, at the Kalkaska Middle School back parking lot off of Dresden Street in Kalkaska. A complete list of accepted items is available on the website: kalkaskaconservation.org.
Residents of Kalkaska County are able to drop off up to 100 pounds of waste at no cost. Additional waste will be accepted at a cost of 50 cents per pound over 100 pounds.

Free Family Carnival

A free family carnival will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 9-10 at the Bible Baptist Church in Central Lake, 1040 North M-88 (next to the football field). The event opens at 11 a.m. on Saturday and includes seven bounce houses, an obstacle course, 40-foot slide, games, prizes, hot dogs and snacks. A free chicken BBQ is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, with service times at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. There are no costs or donations requested for any events on either day. ‘Paint the Town’ exhibit

“Paint the Town” is a new exhibit at The Jordan River Arts Center. The exhibit will features the towns and villages of Antrim and Charlevoix counties as depicted through the people, places and elements that make them unique.
The opening reception is Friday, Sept. 8 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. The exhibit runs through Oct. 8. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, from 1-4 p.m. at the Jordan River Arts Center, 301 Main St. in East Jordan. To find out more, visit jordanriverarts.com.
