Kids Fish Day

Saturday, April 28, 2018 - 9:00am to 3:00pm

The Bellaire Conservation Club will hold Kid’s Fish Day on Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Meadow Brook Trout Pond, 4543 South M-88 in Bellaire. Children ages 12 and younger can catch up to three fish for free. Prizes will be given for the biggest fish. Snacks and additional prizes also will be offered during the event. ‘The Phantom of the Opera’

Theatrical performance features jazz band

“Edges and Orbits,” a free theater performance with the Mancelona High School Jazz Band will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday April 26 at Mancelona High School, 9300 W. Limits (in the Band Room). The project is being sponsored in part by the Michigan Council for the Arts and Cultural Affairs Minigrant Program, which is administered by NorthSky Nonprofit/Rotary Charities.

A Euchre Tournament

Saturday, April 21, 2018 - 5:00pm

will be held Saturday, April 21 at the Cortina Conference Center at Schuss Mountain (across from Ivan’s parking lot). Registration begins at 5 p.m. with games starting at 6. Participants are encouraged to bring their own drinks; snacks will be available. Prizes will be dependent on the number of participants. Community breakfast

A community meals breakfast will be held from 7-11 a.m. Saturday, April 21 at the Walton Junction Sportsman’s Club, 11207 E County Line Road, in Fife Lake. Meals are held every third Saturday from April through October. The club raises trout for the Manistee River and sponsors other community programs. AMVETS Fish Fry

The Elk Rapids AMVETS Post 114 will hold a fish fry from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, April 20 at the post home, 410 Bridge St. in Elk Rapids. Cod, whitefish or a combo are offered and all meals include fries and coleslaw (or baked potato upon request). The public is welcome and all proceeds go to support local veterans.

Learn to tie your own flies

The Elk Rapids District Library is offering a beginner fly tying class on two consecutive Thursdays, April 5 and 12, from 6:30-8 p.m. This will be an entry-level activity with basic fly tying fun for everyone. Participants to tie a wooly bugger pattern, which is one of the best fly patterns to catch a variety of fish. Tying the wooly bugger offers many of the necessary skills to tie many other fly patterns. Even experienced fly tiers may learn a few new techniques that will help them in their own tying.
