Beginning Bridge

Beginning Bridge, a nine-week course will be held Tuesdays from Aug. 14 through Oct. 9 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Alden District Library. The course will be taught by Judy King. Cost is $8 per session and is for new players, players who need a review after not having played for a while, or for those who would like a review of ACBL beginning rules. Water/Ways exhibit at Raven Hill

Raven Hill has been chosen to host the national Smithsonian Museum on Main Street Water/Ways exhibit Aug. 11 through Sept. 23. This exhibit has been traveling around the country since 2016. A variety of water-related programs will be presented by Raven Hill and local water, history and arts organizations before and during the exhibit. Water/Ways is a chance to highlight the importance of northern Michigan’s water as a natural resource to be treasured for its historical and cultural importance.

Alba Area Historical Society to meet

Farmer’s Market at Springfield Rec Area

A Farmer’s Market and more are offered every Thursday (rain or shine), from 3-7 p.m. at the Springfield Recreation Area, located on the corner of Lund and Creighton roads near Fife Lake. Local produce, crafts and flea market items will be featured. Vendors are welcome with no set-up fees. Food dishes to pass are also welcome for the potluck supper served at 5 p.m.

Final ‘Summer Celebration Concert’

The final Summer Celebration Concert of the year, featuring Kenny Thompson will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7 downtown Mancelona. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. Manistee River Cleanup

Kalkaska Conservation District is seeking help to paddle the Manistee River from Rainbow Jim Bridge to Lucas Road on Saturday, Aug. 4 to pick up trash in the river. Volunteers are asked to meet at 9 a.m. at the Rainbow Jim Bridge. To find out more or register, contact Renee Penny at 231-258-3307.

Nature Story Time

Join the Grass River Natural Area each Friday at 10 a.m. to enjoy a short, nature-themed children’s story. The group will then take the children on an adventure with an activity or a hike on the trails at Grass River. The program is best for young children ages 4 and up, but all ages are welcome. Cost is $5 per child. Larger groups are asked to call ahead. To find out more, visit grassriver.org.
