With help from the Michigan Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities, Raven Hill is hosting two “Third Coast Conversations” that will focus on Water. Conversations are scheduled for Saturdays, June 1 and 15 from 4-5 p.m. at Raven Hill Discovery Center in East Jordan. An exhibit entitled: “Talking all things WATER” will be on display from June 1-21. Any environmental organization interested in displaying information about their mission is invited to create a small display.
Kalkaska, a North Country Trail “Trail Town,” will hold a National Trails Day Celebration on Saturday, June 1. The event will include free guided hikes on the NCT and concludes with a picnic at Chalker Park in Kalkaska. Choose from two guided hikes. The longer hike will be about seven miles, starting at Starvation Lake Road and hiking to Pickerel Lake State Forest Campground. The shorter hike is 2.75 miles from Twin Lake Road to Pickerel Lake State Forest Campground. Bussing is available for each hike. The long hike departs promptly at 8:30 a.m. and the short hike departs at 10 a.m.
Elk Rapids will celebrate the change of seasons with its spring Art Beat, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 1. The Blue Heron Gallery, Mullaly’s 128 Studio & Gallery and The Twisted Fish Gallery will be participating in the open house exhibit throughout the day.

The Celebrate Recovery group meets every Thursday evening at the Kalkaska Church of Christ, 1725 W. Kalkaska Road. Doors open at 6 p.m. for refreshments and fellowship. The Friends of the Bellaire Library will host IPR essayist Karen Anderson at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30 at the library. Anderson has contributed weekly essays on Interlochen Public Radio for 15 years. A collection of her essays “Gradual Clearing: Weather Reports from the Heart,” was recently published. The event will include a Q&A session, along with books for sale and signing. The event is free and open to the public.
The 13th annual Antrim County Petoskey Stone Festival will take place Saturday, May 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Barnes Park in Eastport. The popular family-friendly event will include a 5K race/fun run, live entertainment, demonstrations, kids’ activities, prizes and more. The Central Lake Masonic Lodge No. 426 will host a pancake breakfast on Monday, May 27 (Memorial Day) from 7-11 a.m. at the Central Lake Masonic Center. Pancakes and sausage or sausage gravy and biscuits will be served. Cost is $7 for adults; $5 for children under 12, or for both entrees the cost is $10 for adults and $7 for children under 12. Proceeds will benefit the Central Lake High School Scholarship Fund, charity organizations and Masonic building needs.
Lakes of the North will be hosting its annual craft show on Saturday, May 25 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the assembly room, located at 6330 Pineview Drive, near Mancelona. Local artists and crafters will be displaying a full array of handmade items Admission is free; lunch will be available for purchase along with bake sale items and used books. Go for a relaxing stroll on the trails with Grass River Natural Area docent Julie Hurd (each week through August), beginning at 10 a.m. to find and identify the unique wildflowers at the GRNA. The Antrim Conservation District will hold a Scrap Tire Collection Day (tires only) on Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elk Rapids DPW Station (117 Lake St.). The service is offered for residents of Antrim County.
All scrap tires are free through the MDEQ Scrap Tire Cleanup grant (up to 10 tires per household; must be less than four feet tall and 12 inches wide).
