Winter Fungi Walk

Join Grass River Natural Area for a winter fungi walk on Saturday, Jan. 22 from 10 a.m. to noon Fungus is all around, even in the wintertime. Go on a winter walk in search of the fungi of winter, like shelf mushrooms on fallen logs, bark and standing trees. Along the way collect some for identification and discuss some of their medicinal qualities with long time mushroom hunter and naturalist, Franny Bluhm.

Craftnoon

On Thursday, Jan. 28 at 4 p.m. the Bellaire Library will be having a Craftnoon in the library for adults 16 and older. Come and learn about hand embroidery. This is a hands-on class and is limited to ten people. Registration is required by calling the library at 231-533-8814. This is a free event with all supplies provided.

 

Story Time at Central Lake District Library

Moon-Lit Guided Snowshoe

Grass River Natural Area will be hosting a moon-lit guided snowshoe tour on Friday, Jan. 14 from 7-8:30 p.m. Come and join a naturalist on a guided snowshoe tour through Grass River’s forests at night to look for signs and sounds of nocturnal animals. Snowshoes are available for rent for a $5 rental fee during the program or bring your own.

Victims Services Unit Meeting

The Antrim County Sheriff’s Department Victims Services Unit will meet on Monday, Jan. 17 at 7 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Central Lake. The unit provides on-scene support for any surviving secondary victims of an unexpected death or serious trauma. A two-person team of volunteers are available 24/7, 365 days a year.

Bath School Massacre of 1927

On Sunday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m. come and listen to Bath School Massacre of 1927 by George Robson. This event is free of charge. Learn the history of the oldest and deadliest school bombing in the U.S. Robson’s parents were both in the school at the time of the bombing which killed 38 children and 6 adults.

Books ’n Brie Book Club

Weeknight Hikes

Join the Kalkaska Conservation District and the Grand Traverse Hiking Club for a full moon evening hike on Thursday, Jan. 13 at 6 p.m. Meet at Smith Lake Road NW one mile north of Island Lake Road at the intersection of the TC to K Trail. Look for the Conservation District Event signs and the blue blazes. Hike, snowshoe/xc ski 1.75 miles east to Smith Lake depending on the trail conditions.

Basketry with Dorothy Walter

Every Wednesday starting on Jan. 12 come and enjoy Basketry with Dorothy Walter from 1 - 4 p.m. at the Helena Township Community Center, 8751 Helena Road.
