Gala Event: Mural Reveal

Friday, October 11, 2024 - 5:00pm

Come dressed to the nines for a special gala event on Friday, Oct. 11 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to celebrate the completion of our community mural project. Enjoy catered food, wine and beer, music, a silent art auction which 100% of the proceeds go to Art & Connection. Have the opportunity to mingle with community members and view our completed mural. This event is located at Art & Connection, 965 Green Street in Elk Rapids.

Harvest Gathering

The Samels Family Heritage Society welcomes the public to the popular Harvest Gathering on Sunday, Oct.  6 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the historic Samels Farm located at 8298 Skegemog Point Road in Williamsburg. This year’s event will feature wagon rides, antique tractors, blacksmithing, archaeology display, quilting in-house, hit ‘n miss engine, flint knapping demonstrations, thrasher demonstrations, live music, fresh apple cider and cookies along with other refreshments. Admission is free but donations are always welcome.

 

Vintage Halloween Decorations on Display

Starting Tuesday, Oct.  1 through Thursday, Oct.  31 come and see Linda Fox’s collection of vintage Halloween decorations which will be on display at the Alden District Library, 8751 Helena Road. This is a free event. For more information contact the library at 231-331-4318.
 

Storywalk

Round up the family and head out to Coy Mountain for Storywalk starting Tuesday, Oct. 1 through Thursday, Oct. 31 where you will enjoy romping in the woods and reading a good book along the way. The storybook for the month of Oct.  is “The Spooky Wheels on the Bus” by J. Elizabeth Mills. Coy Mountain is located at 9011 Valley Street in Alden.
 

Mural Fest Interactive Open House

Join us on Monday, Sept. 30 from 4 p.m. 7 p.m. for an interactive open house to kick off our outdoor mural creation. Enjoy snacks, wine and beer, mural painting demos and raffles as well as Q & A with mural artist, Zac Shafer. Top off the night and get creative with our interactive “paint by number”, our own twist on an indoor mural. This event will take place at Art & Connection, 965 Green Street in Elk Rapids.

 

Community Choir Rehearsal

The Antrim County Community Choir rehearsals for the annual December music concert will begin on Monday, Sept. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Bellaire. All area singers are welcome. No audition or participation fee is required. Proceeds from the free-will offerings at our concerts benefit our scholarship program for area students. Pastor visits Church in the Hills

The Rev. Dr. Andrew Pomerville will be leading worship at Church in the Hills at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29 and local friends as well as others who have moved away are invited to join us for this joyful event. In 2007 Andrew was called to Church in the Hills fresh out of seminary, but bursting with ideas and energy. Among the major advancements while he was here were the beginning of a Board of Deacons and the first after-school meeting of what would become the Bellaire Youth Initiative. All are welcome to attend this special day.

 

Pancake Breakfast

The Bellaire Masonic Lodge will be having a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the lodge, 4905 Stover Road in Bellaire. Cost is $10 per plate and includes pancakes, eggs, sausage, biscuits and gravy, coffee and orange juice.

 

Fall Stream Monitoring

Fall Stream Monitoring will take place on Saturday, Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. at the Grass River Center to do sampling on Shanty Creek. Grass River Natural Area conducts stream monitoring surveys twice a year. The fall surveys will take place in Sept.. We rotate amongst the three creeks each year and this year is Shanty Creek. This is a good way to understand our watershed, and the biodiversity within it. This does require you to attend a training session.

NMC Fall Mushroom Foray

On Friday, Sept. 27 at 1 p.m. Register through NMC Extended Education and tour the woods and fields with naturalists at Grass River Natural Area to freshen up on your mushroom identification skills. Retirement Party

The Kalkaska Conversation District is having a retirement party in honor of Mark Randolph on Thursday, Sept. 26 from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m. at the Kalkaska Conservation District office, 406 S. Victims Service Unit Meeting

The Antrim County Sheriff’s Department Victims Services Unit will meet on Monday, Sept. 23 at 5:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Central Lake. The unit provides immediate, on scene support for any surviving secondary victim of an unexpected death or serious trauma. A two person team of volunteers is available 24/7, 365 days a year. Initial training is given to all volunteers, with additional ongoing training. Victim Services advocates are caring, compassionate volunteers who are recruited from the community.

Chain of Lakes Crop Walk

The annual Chain of Lakes Crop Walk will be held on Sunday, Sept. 22 starting at 2 p.m. from the Forest Home Township Hall, 321 N. Bridge Street in Bellaire. The Crop Walk is sponsored by Church World Service to raise money to end hunger locally and around the world. Locally 25% stays in our communities and benefit food pantries in Rapid City, Bellaire and Mancelona. We walk to show solidarity with the millions who walk everyday in search of food and water. Ken Osborne in Concert

Ken Osborne, bass soloist will be in concert on Sunday, Sept. 22 at 11:00 a.m. at the Grace Community Church, 1817 Main Street on M88 in Central Lake. Ken is a Christian singer with a rich deep bass voice. He sings many inspiring songs at a pitch lower than most can hit. Breakfast & Monthly Meeting

The Alba Sportsman’s Club is having breakfast on Sunday, Sept. 22 from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Cost is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and $6 for kids 10 and under. The monthly meeting will be held at 12 p.m. on the same and both are held at the Alba Sportsman’s Club, 5225 County Road 620 in Alba. All are welcome to attend.
