Marines to Muster

Area Marines will once again be celebrating the Marine Corps Birthday with a traditional military breakfast at G’s Restaurant in Kalkaska from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 9. This will be the 249th Anniversary of the establishment of the Marine Corps and as always the senior Marine present will conduct the annual reading of the Marine Corps General Order #47. The Commandants Message will be presented along with a tribute to fallen Marines. The oldest and youngest Marines present will have the honor of cutting the cake.

Swiss Steak To Go

The Central Lake Methodist Church will be having their last Swiss Streak Dinner To Go on Saturday, Nov. 9. Please pre-order by Friday, Nov. 8 to reserve your dinners. We can only serve drive-up orders after pre-orders are filled. Text only to 231-676-2989 or call or text orders to 231-350-1914 and leave name, number of dinners and phone number. When you arrive outside on Nov. 9 at 5 p.m. call 231-350-2771 and we will run your dinners to your car. Donation is $15. Slow cooked swiss steak in gravy with mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, cole slaw, dinner roll and a piece of pie.

Holiday Gift Fair

The Bellaire Chamber of Commerce is holding its 41st Annual Holiday Gift Fair on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Shanty Creek Resorts Ballroom. Kick off your holiday season with gifts, crafts, raffles, prizes and more. Light Up The Night tickets will be available.

 

Pulp Fiction Magazines

Pulp Fiction Magazines will be on display starting Friday, Nov. 1 through Friday, Nov. 29 at the Alden District Library. Come see Joel Reeves’ collection of Pulp Fiction Magazines. TAAG Art & Craft Show

The Torch Area Artisans Guild (TAAG) is sponsoring their annual Art and Craft Fair at the Helena Township Community Center, 8751 Helena Road in Alden on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be quality arts and crafts for sale from many area artisans. There will also be a beautiful quilt for raffle made by the TAAG members as well as a bake sale. Lunch will be available and periodic door prizes donated from the vendors. No entry fee. A Night at Short’s

Veterans Day Assembly

The Bellaire Public Schools will be having a K-12 Veterans Day Assembly on Monday, Nov. 11 at 9 a.m. in the high school gym. We invite all of the students’ parents and family members, the community, Veterans and current Armed Service Members to attend. There will be refreshments for the Veterans and their guest after the assembly.
 

Veterans Park Opening

The official Veterans Park Opening is scheduled for Monday, Nov. 11 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. located at 5394 M 72 in Rapid City (look for the big concrete flag). Swiss Steak Dinner & Bake Sale

The Annual Pleasant Valley FMC Swiss Steak Dinner and Bake Sale will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley FMC, 3055 W. Old State Road, East Jordan. This is a mission fundraiser to come out and help us support missionaries globally and domestically.
 

Veteran’s Day Remembrance Dinner

The Area Seniors, Inc. (ASI) is honoring all Armed Forces Veterans with a free dinner for the veteran and spouse. Non-Veterans are also welcome for s small cost of $4 over 60 years of age and $8 for under 60 years of age. This dinner will be held on Friday, Nov. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Antrim County COA Senior Center, 308 E. Cayuga Street in Bellaire. A special program will be presented. This program is open to everyone in the community. Please mark your calendar and hope everyone will attend and show our appreciation and support of our Veterans.

Annual Chili Dinner

The Central Lake Fire and Rescue Auxiliary’s Annual Chili dinner will be on Saturday, Nov. 2 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the fire station located on M 88 in Central Lake. Several varieties of chili will be available as well as cornbread/rolls, dessert and cider. The dinner is by donation with proceeds going to the auxiliary for their mission to support the department and fire/rescue educational programs within the community.
 

Festival of Trees

The Festival of Trees will be held from Friday, November 8 through Saturday, November 16 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Northland Plaza on the corner of US 131 and M 72 in Kalkaska. Family Day is on Saturday, November 9 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Santa and Reindeer sweet treats and live music will be available. Virtual ticket drawing will be streamed online on Sunday, November 17 at noon via Facebook Live. Children may write a letter to Santa throughout the festival (Santa’s helpers will help Santa reply to each letter received).

Haunted Trail Walk

The Friends of the Antrim Creek Natural Area are hosting a Haunted Trail Walk on Saturday,  Oct. 19 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the beautiful Antrim Creek Natural Area. We will have refreshments and surprises, Friends of Antrim Creek Natural Area swag, and trick or treating along the haunted trail. Bring your littles, (costumes welcome), bring your neighbors, bring your friends and any stray skeletons, ghouls or goblins. All are welcome. This will be held rain or shine.

HealingStrong

HealingStrong Natural Healing Education and Illness Support Group (including cancer and other illnesses) will meet at the Pleasant Valley Free Methodist Church from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday,  Oct. 17. This group meets every month on the third Thursday. The meeting welcomes anyone interested in regaining dignity and hope in the face of a serious illness.
