Bellaire Light Up the Night & Soup Cook Off

The 15th Annual Light Up the Night and Soup Cookoff will be on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown Bellaire. There will be eight soups to try for $10. For the all day activities and schedule of events go to Destination Bellaire Facebook page.

Christmas Lightness and Light Program

Saturday, December 7, 2024 - 4:00pm to Sunday, December 8, 2024 - 4:00pm

The public is invited to attend “Christmas Lightness and Light” a program of secular and sacred holiday music presented at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7 and Sunday, Dec. 8 also at 4 p.m. The first concert will be at the First Presbyterian Church in Elk Rapids and the second concert will be held at Church in the Hills in Bellaire. This is a combined choir of area singers directed by Dorothy Clore and Cheryl Knight. The free will offering collected in Elk Rapids benefits the Michigan non-profits. The offering in Bellaire benefits the Antrim Community Choir’s music scholarship program.

Hometown Christmas

The Central Lake will be hosting its Hometown Christmas on Wednesday, Dec. 4 from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in downtown Central Lake. Santa arrives at 5:30 p.m. to light the village Christmas tree. There will be hayrides, fire truck rides, family crafts and treats and visit with Santa and his reindeer to help support Llama. Stores will be open late with sales and surprises. Enjoy the annual window night tradition in beautiful downtown Central Lake. This event is sponsored by the Central Lake’s DDA.

 

Christmas in the Village

The Village of Ellsworth will be having Christmas in the Village on Sunday, Dec. 1 at 5 p.m. in the Community Square in Ellsworth. There will be a tree lighting, music, caroling, cookie decorating, ornament craft, North Pole visitors, hot cocoa, hot soup and games.

Alden’s Christmas Celebration

Saturday, November 30, 2024 - 3:00pm

The Alden’s Christmas Celebration will be held on Saturday, Nov. 30 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in downtown Alden. There will be a train display, cookies and crafts at the Church from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Gathering outside starts at 5 p.m. with the tree lighting at 5:20 p.m. Santa arrives on a fire truck at 5:30 p.m. There will be photo op and visit with Santa along with hot cocoa and cookies. Please bring a canned good or monetary donation for the Area Food Pantry.
 

Book Fair

Book enthusiasts are invited to join several local northern Michigan authors for the third annual Book Fair on Sunday, December 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Mercato at the Village of Grand Traverse Commons in Traverse City. The event which includes 12 booths featuring works of local authors is free and open to the public.

Victims Services Unit Meeting

Monday, November 25, 2024 - 5:30pm

The Antrim County Sheriff’s Department Victims Services Unit will meet on Monday, Nov. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Central Lake. The unit provides immediate on-scene support for any surviving, secondary victims of an unexpected death or serious trauma. A two person team of volunteers is available 24/7, 365 days a year. Initial training is given to all volunteers with additional ongoing training. Victim Services advocates are caring, compassionate volunteers who are recruited from the community. All those interested in joining the unit are welcome at meetings.

Lake Huron Mermaid Presentation & Workshop

Join authors Anne Marie Oomen and Linda Nemec Foster at Forest Home Township Hall in Bellaire on Friday, Nov. 22 at 2 p.m. for a program based on their book “The Lake Huron Mermaid” Writing prompts and ideas just might inspire attendees to do some water writing of their own. Book Sale

On Saturday, Nov. 23 the Alden District Library will be having their book sale during the TAAG Craft Show from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Books, DVDs, CDs and puzzles will be on sale. Proceeds will benefit Enrichment Programs for adults and children. This is held at the library located in the Helena Township Community Center, 8751 Helena Road and is sponsored by the Friends of the Alden District Library. Craft Show

The Mancelona Community Craft Show will take place on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Mancelona Elementary School, 231 W. Limits. Proceeds from the event will benefit Pathway Community Church’s youth camp programs.
 

Trivia Night

Join Grass River Natural Area for Nature Trivia Night at the Short’s Pull Barn in Elk Rapids. Get your team of two to six players together and get ready to stretch your brain with five rounds of clever, family-friendly trivia. Don’t worry if you are not a nature expert, questions will  be drawn of other areas of knowledge, like movies and music. Cost is $5 per player and players will pay upon arriving at Short’s.

Friends of the Library Monthly Meeting

The Friends of the Library Monthly Meeting will be held on Thursday, Nov. 21 at 9:30 a.m. for social time and 10 a.m. for the meeting at the Alden District Library located at the Helena Township Community Center, 8751 Helena Road.
