Bob Holtzmann will be discussing his experience of growing up on two different Catholic Missions on reservations in North and South Dakota on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. at the Alden District Library, Helena Township Community Center, 8751 Helena Road. He will tell the story of how his family ended up living there. This is a free event and is sponsored by the Alden District Library. For more information contact 231-331-4318.

NMC The Science of Making Maple Syrup

On Friday, Feb. 21 at 1 p.m. at NMC come and learn the science of making maple syrup. By learning both traditional and modern methods. Tap into the science of maple syrup production, tree identification, equipment needs and instructions for small scale DIY projects. Discover the art of tapping maple trees. You must register through NMC Extended Education. By going to NMC Extended Education. The second class will be held on Friday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. at Grass River Natural Area.

Author John Mauk at Bee Well Meadery

The public is invited to Bee Well Meadery on Wednesday, Feb. 12 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. for author John Mauk’s reading of the conversation about his short story collection, “Where All Things Flatten”. Mauk will also be holding a fiction writing workshop at the Grass River Natural Area Education Center, 6500 Alden Highway in Bellaire on Thursday, Feb. 13 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. open to writers of all levels 16 and older who are interested in learning how to craft their stories into writing. There is no charge for either event.

Breakfast & Monthly Meeting

The Alba Sportsman’s Club is having breakfast and monthly meeting on Sunday, Feb. 9 with breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. Cost is $9 for adults; $7 for seniors; and $6 for ages 10 and under. The meeting will begin at 12 p.m. The Alba Sportsman’s Club is located at 5225 County Road 620 in Alba. Everyone is welcome to attend.
