Shanty Creek Freedom Fest

Shanty Creek Resorts will host Freedom Fest, beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 3 at Summit Mountain. The free event will feature live music, a beer/BBQ tent, dunk tank, bungee run, bounce house, water slide, and fireworks at dusk. A $10 wristband is required for children’s activities. Community Paddle

A Community Paddle will be held Monday, July 1 from 7-8:30 p.m. beginning at the Bradford Street Boat Launch (7854 Bradford, just south of the Thurston Park Campground). The event is free, and no pre-registration is required. All paddlers must bring their own craft/boat, paddle, and pfd (life jacket). Rotary Chicken Barbecue

The Rotary Club of Kalkaska will host its popular Chicken Barbecue from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 30 (rain or shine) at the Kalkaska Fairgrounds Civic Center. Tickets are $10, with proceeds going to benefit local projects. Carry-out will be available.

Outdoor Movie Nights

Fudgees and Central Lake Public Schools will host Outdoor Movie Night beginning June 27 with “Jumanji” and continue July 2 (“Wizard of Oz”), July 11 (“Wonder”), July 18 (“A Dog’s Way Home”), July 25 (“Elf”), and Aug. 1 (“The Lion King”). Movies begin at dusk (weather permitting) and will be shown in Sage Park, across from Fudgees.

Evening Stroll and Farmers Market

The Village of Alden will kick off its regular Evening Stroll on Thursday, June 28. The events are held from 6-8 p.m. every Thursday throughout the summer in downtown Alden. The weekly festivities include live entertainment, activities, evening shopping and a farmers market from 4-7 p.m. (at Tennis Court Park).

Rowell Family Benefit

A sloppy joe dinner, with side dishes and desserts, will be held on Saturday, June 22 at VFW Post 8684, 408 Hyde St. in Kalkaska starting at 4 p.m. ($7 suggested donation). Mancelona ‘Bike & Book Bash’

A free “Bike & Book Bash” for ages 4-12 will take place Saturday, June 22 from noon to 4 p.m. at Cran Park in Mancelona. The event will include books and a book bag giveaway, bike safety course, labyrinth walk and treasure hunt with prizes, healthy snacks, a raffle for a boy’s and girl’s bike (must be present to win), bike helmet fitting and more. Held rain or shine (except for severe weather), participants must be accompanied by an adult and sign a waiver. Rock for Rotary

The Rotary Club of Elk Rapids is sponsoring a Rock-A-Thon on Saturday, June 22 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Village Market parking lot on Ames Street, as well as a second location at the corner of River and Cedar streets in downtown Elk Rapids. Rotarians and friends will be “Rocking” to raise money for its Rotary Good Works Fund, which supports a number of area organizations. Those who cannot attend but wish to contribute can sponsor a “Rocker” with a pledge of any amount, or be an official Rocker Sponsor for any pledge of $100 or more.

Music in the Park Concert

Club to hold golf scramble

The Antrim County Snowmobile Club will hold its 21st annual golf scramble on Saturday, June 15 at the Deer Run Golf Course in Lakes of the North. Registration with coffee and donuts is scheduled for 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m. Prizes will be given for first-, second- and third-place, along with a skins game, raffles and many additional door prizes will be given away. Proceeds will benefit Special Olympics, Wertz Warriors, local food pantries and Pink Ribbon Riders for Breast Cancer.

Ellsworth Pig Roast

Ellsworth Pig Roas
The 39th annual Ellsworth Pig Roast will be held Friday and Saturday, June 14-15. Along with a host of family-friendly activities, the parade will once again take place on Saturday at 11 a.m. There is no pre-registration, however participants are asked to arrive to the Community (Pavilion) Park parking lot no later than 10 a.m. to register.

Gallery to host opening reception
