Go for a relaxing stroll on the trails with Grass River Natural Area docent Julie Hurd (each week through August), beginning at 10 a.m. to find and identify the unique wildflowers at the GRNA. Along the way the group will listen and look for the birds that call Grass River home. This is a two-hour program and donations are appreciated. To find out more, visit grassriver.org.

“The Open Door,” a Christian Coffee House, will host free gospel music concerts on the first and third Saturdays of each month (through December), beginning at 7 p.m., 951 Mill St. in East Jordan. The Celebrate Recovery group meets every Thursday evening at the Kalkaska Church of Christ, 1725 W. Kalkaska Road. Doors open at 6 p.m. for refreshments and fellowship. Bellaire Community United Methodist Church will host its Vacation Bible School from Monday through Thursday, July 29-Aug. 1 (6-8 p.m. each night) for preschoolers through those who have completed fifth grade. A tire recycling event will be held Saturday, July 27 from 8 a.m. until noon at the Kalkaska County Recycling Center. The event is for Kalkaska County residents only. Ten residential tires (on or off rim) per resident may be dropped off free. No large equipment tires will be accepted. All are invited to participate in “ART: Watercolor Reflections,” scheduled from 1-3 p.m. Thursday, July 25 at the Grass River Natural Area. Waste Collection Day
The next Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will be Saturday, July 20, 9 a.m. to noon at Kalkaska Middle School. Hazardous Waste Collection (Kalkaska County residents only) will include: paint thinners, pesticides, car fluids, lacquer, stains and more.
