‘Sock Hop’ benefit for cancer prevention

The Antrim County High Tea for Breast Cancer Prevention will hold a “Sock Hop” benefit for cancer prevention on Tuesday, Aug. 6 from 6-9 p.m. at the home of Jan and McCrackin, 11332 S.E. Torch Lake Dr. in Alden. The event will feature hors d’oeuvres provided by local businesses, live entertainment and dancing, a cash bar and valet parking. Tickets are available at all branches of Alden State Bank, and Huntington Bank (Bellaire).

Blooms and Birds: Wildflower Walk

Go for a relaxing stroll on the trails with Grass River Natural Area docent Julie Hurd (each week through August), beginning at 10 a.m. to find and identify the unique wildflowers at the GRNA. Along the way the group will listen and look for the birds that call Grass River home. This is a two-hour program and donations are appreciated. To find out more, visit grassriver.org.

Free gospel concert

“The Open Door,” a Christian Coffee House, will host free gospel music concerts on the first and third Saturdays of each month (through December), beginning at 7 p.m., 951 Mill St. in East Jordan. Celebrate Recovery

Tire recycling event

A tire recycling event will be held Saturday, July 27 from 8 a.m. until noon at the Kalkaska County Recycling Center. The event is for Kalkaska County residents only. Ten residential tires (on or off rim) per resident may be dropped off free. No large equipment tires will be accepted. TAAG Quilt Show

Along with an exhibit of members’ quilts, the boutique will have a variety of quilted items and needlework projects available for sale.

‘ART: Watercolor Reflections’

Household Hazardous

First-come, first-served, 50 pounds free, donations will be accepted for more than 50 pounds. Nature Story Time

Free concert in the park

A free concert in the Elk Rapids Day Park Deborah Wentworth Memorial Pavilion (on South Bayshore Drive), featuring May Erlewine, will be held from 6-8:30 p.m. Thursday, July 18. In case of rain, the concert will be moved to Elk Rapids’ Peterman Auditorium. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs. The event is sponsored by Art Rapids and the Elk Rapids Rotary Club.
