Antrim County Sheriff’s Office D.A.R.E. is having a fun 5K run on Saturday, June 28. Registration begins at 9 a.m. and the race at 10 a.m. Lace up your shoes and hit the pavement for the race against drugs. NMC Wild Michigan Orchids & Other Rare Plants

Grass River Natural Area in partnership with NMC Extended Education will be having a Wild Michigan Orchids and other Rare Plants class on Friday, June 27 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Join James Dake of Grass River Natural Area as we learn about these important environmental indicators in an exclusive off-trail expedition to see rare orchids and other amazing plants. This is a free event and wearing muck boots is recommended. Register at NMC Extended Education.
 

Strawberry Social

The East Boardman Community Bible Church will be having a Strawberry Social on Friday, June 27, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. There will be fresh strawberries, shortcake, ice cream, sandwiches, sloppy joes, and beverages outside under the pavilion but air conditioned inside. The church is located at 2080 Boardman Road.

 

Historic Journey with Dennis Spillane

The Elk Rapids Historical Society will be hosting Dennis Spillane on Thursday, June 26, at 7 p.m. at the Elk Rapids History Museum, 301 Traverse Street (corner of Pine) in Elk Rapids. He will be taking us on a historic journey, viewing the beauty of classic wooden boats that cruise our local lakes. A raffle will be held to award a private ride for two with lunch on Elk Lake. K9 Team Demonstration

There will be a K9 Team Demonstration on Thursday, June 26 from 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Come and meet Antrim County K9 Lieutenant Bricko and his handler Sgt. Skyler Skrobeck. This team will be demonstrating Bricko’s obedience, agility, detection and article searching skills. This is an outdoor event so bring a chair and will be held on the South Torch Lake Fire Station, 8765 Helena Road in Alden. In the event of rain this program will be held in the gym at the Helena Township Community Center next door to the fire station. This is a family friendly program. No pets allowed.

 

Concert on the Square

Color Our World: T-Shirts for Totes Tween & Teen Night

Come join us in making these no-sew, easy and fun tote bags. Up-cycling for a great cause, helping our neighbors in need. We will be making two totes, one to keep and one will be donated to local food pantries. This event is on Monday, June 23 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Bellaire Public Library. Please register your attendance so we have plenty of food and fun on hand for everyone. Please bring two to three gently used t-shirts. This is for ages 10 through 17. Christian Coffee House Concert

NMC Sedges of Northern Michigan

On Friday, June 20 Grass River Natural Area in partnership with NMC Extended Education will be having a program entitled Sedges of Northern Michigan from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sedges are wonderful plants that are often overlooked because they can be difficult to identify. This field class will walk you through a variety of wetland communities as we learn some of the most common sedges you will likely encounter in Northern Michigan. By the end of the class you will walk away with an identification guide and new found appreciation for these unique plants.

Color Our World? Summer Reading Program

Kids and teens can sign up and pick up their program packets starting on Thursday, June 19 at the Alden District Library, Helena Township Community Center, 8751 Helena Road. Sign up ends on June 30. The program ends on August 4 when reading logs can be turned in to collect prizes. For more information call 231-331-4318.
 

Library Monthly Meeting & Spring Luncheon

The Friends of the Library Monthly Meeting and Spring Luncheon will be on Thursday, June 19 at 9:30 a.m. for social time and 10 a.m. for the meeting and is held at the Alden District Library, Helena Township Community Center, 8751 Helena Road.
