Wickes plume could reach Shanty Creek in two, three years

Approximately 100 people crowd into the Boardman Meeting Room Shanty Creek Lodge’s Cedar River Lodge on Sept. 16 for a town hall about the Wickes plume. There were many questions fielded by the panel during the question and answer portion of the presentation.
BELLAIRE — The Wickes plume is expected to reach the Shanty Creek in two to three years. This update was shared at a town hall hosted by the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and Health Department of Northwest Michigan (HDNW) on Sept. 16 at Shanty Creek Lodge’s Cedar River Lodge.
The town hall provided an opportunity for community members to get updated information about the underground pollution plume, which has been moving Trichloroethylene (TCE) westward and downhill from Mancelona for at least 60 years.
